Q: Please tell us about The Asset, and what inspired you to write it.

A: Sure! The Asset is a contemporary romance about a woman, fleeing from her sinister past, who must defy her fears and risk her life to care for a wounded warrior, a SEAL, running away from his uncertain future. Together they learn that fear can give way to courage and love is a healing journey. The Asset is the first novel of my Wounded Warrior series, a collection of novels that feature strong, self-reliant heroines trying to find their place in the world and the brave, sexy military heroes who will lay down their lives to protect the women they love.

I was inspired to write both the novel and the series by the amazing people I met while my husband was in the Navy and we lived as part of the military community. I wish that everybody in the world got to meet these brave souls. More specifically, my heroes and heroines are inspired by the wounded warriors coming back from the wars abroad and the incredible resilience they show every day.

Q: What themes do you explore in The Asset?

A: Healing is a big one, and more specifically love’s extraordinary healing power, our ability to heal each other through love and yes, even sex as an intimate way of connecting and expressing affection. Redemption is the other big one. We all fail, but we are also resilient beings. In the end this novel is about survival, resilience and hope, about how two people can rebuild their futures together and bring joy to their lives.

Q: Why do you write?

A: Because I can’t stop.

Q: How picky are you with language?

A: I can be very picky, because I want language that works, feels real, simple, straightforward but also telling. In the end, it’s all about telling the story to the reader.

Q: When you write, do you sometimes feel as though you were being manipulated from afar?

A: I feel like the characters are in charge and the story is just pouring out.

Q: What is your worst time as a writer?

A: When I can’t write.

Q: Your best?

A: When I can write freely and without constraints.

Q: Is there anything that would stop you from writing?

A: Death, I suppose. J

Q: What’s the happiest moment you’ve lived as an author?

A: It was pretty sweet when I got word Carina Press was going to buy four novels from me. That was sort of epic and very special. Seeing the cover of The Asset for the first time was also pretty neat. Finishing a novel, typing The End, that’s always a moment of triumph.

Q: Is writing an obsession to you?

A: Yep.  I think the word “obsession” is the perfect descriptor for how I feel about what I do every day.

Q: Are the stories you create connected with you in some way?

A: Yes, I think that’s true for all writers. Don’t you think? We incorporate our nature and experiences into everything we do. In my case, I had the opportunity to meet some incredible people when my husband was in the Navy. The extraordinary men and women I met while I was part of the military community inspire the heroes and heroines in my stories.

Q: Ray Bradbury once said, “You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you.” Do you agree?

A: I do, because an author has to stay deeply connected to her writing in order to be able to pull together a good story and reality has an annoying way of interrupting fiction.

Q: Where is your book available?

Meet the Author:

Anna del Mar writes hot, smart romances that soothe the soul, challenge the mind, and satisfy the heart. Her stories focus on strong heroines struggling to find their place in the world and the brave, sexy, kickass, military heroes who defy the limits of their broken bodies to protect the women they love. She is the author of The Asset (Carina Press), the first novel of her Wounded Warrior series and three other novels scheduled for release during 2016. A Georgetown University graduate, Anna enjoys traveling, hiking, skiing, and the sea. Writing is her addiction, her drug of choice, and what she wants to do all the time. The extraordinary men and women she met during her years as a Navy wife inspire the fabulous heroes and heroines at the center of her stories. When she stays put—which doesn’t happen very often—she lives in Florida with her indulgent husband and two very opinionated cats.
